They say living in Eagle River is really living in Alaska. The mountains, valleys, parks, wildlife and small-town feel gives this place a special feeling of community.
They say there is more parent involvement in the schools.
They say the median income of many of the areas, especially where this home is located, are among the highest in all of the Municipality of Anchorage.
But nobody puts on airs. Nobody gets off on being a big deal. They are Alaskans.
And the newcomers blend right in, readily accepted.
Because this is also a place where people come and go with regularity. Many are military, and it's clear why this part of the community has such high appeal for our servicemen and women.
You don't have a long commute through Anchorage if you work at Elmendorf AFB or Ft. Richardson Army Post. No red lights: just hang a right off the highway at the gate you want, quite some distance before reaching Anchorage.
If you work downtown, or in the University-Medical complex, or in the midtown employment centers you can experience a bit of backup at peak hours along Merrill Field. But it's not much more severe than coming in from South Anchorage, and about the same distance in many cases.
What about this home? It has all the high-demand features so many people ask for, and can't always find at this price level.
Four bedrooms, in a traditional two-story configuration, all upstairs. The laundry is where it logically belongs: upstairs, where you and the kids take our clothes on and off.
The main living area has the kitchen as the center of interest. Anyone in there can still be a part of what is going on in the adjacent living and family rooms.
The home is nearly new, having been built only three years ago. Spinell Homes is the builder, long-respected and still actively building this popular floor plan in newer sections of the neighborhood. Indeed, just weeks before this home came on the market somebody contracted for one to be built -- and, the price was the same as this property, without landscaping, upgraded flooring like this home, and none of its elegant window coverings.
Moreover, this home is in the absolutely best location of the neighborhood. It's on the south side of the street, meaning it catches all the direct sunlight into the parts of the home where people spend most of their time: kitchen, back deck, family room, and master bedroom suite.
And off this south-facing rear exposure there are nothing but stunning views. There really are no homes in close sight as your eyes lift to the mountains and look down into the Eagle River valley and greenbelt areas. The land slopes away from the back yard, so there aren't any backs of the neighbor homes to look at. Check the views in the photos from the master bedroom and the back desk in the gallery below, and the video.
The owners have done any number of tasteful designer color accents through this home. (And I'm NOT writing a euphemism for "they did really weird colors on the walls"!) See for yourself in the photos. It really all fits together. I have a feeling of peace in here, even though this is a busy household with energetic children.
So join me and see for yourself. Perhaps you can tell from reading some of my other listings how partial I am to this home. I trust you'll share my enthusiasm.

Directions: Driftwood Bay Dr runs east off the Eagle River Loop Road. Follow to left on Highland Ridge Dr, up the hill and toward the end, before it takes a hard left there are a number of homes on the right that are accessed by a parallel low-traffic road/drive. This home is one of the last in that strip.
