Homes with most of their footage on one level are hard to find in Anchorage.
Even more rare is a unique custom home
that has a great room concept and over 2400 square feet of
living area on nearly a half-acre of mature landscaping
overlooking Campbell Lake and the Chugach Mountains.
Three very large mountain ash trees attract moose.
In the fall, expect a visit from flocks of the bohemian
waxwings who feast on their big red berries. Currents abound on
the west side of the home, and in the planter at the top of the
entry stairs. Many other flowering bushes and shrubs grace the property.
Peach Asiatic lilies bloom annually. They echo the carpet in the
home, a slightly lighter shade.
A private deck in front basks in sun year 'round.
The front door is elegant stained glass. To the rear, French doors open to
a large private deck with built-in
seating where you can enjoy restful views of the perennial garden and lilac
trees.
This informal home is
well-suited for
entertaining and family gatherings: you can park 12 cars diagonally on the driveway!
The main level is a great
room, very open and spacious, as can been seen from the photos
below and the virtual tour. There is an impressive floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, exposed
open
beam and tongue-in-groove ceiling in living room. The huge south-facing windows let in
all the light available, even in the shortest days of winter.
The well-equipped kitchen has real oak cabinetry, and flooring
that is designed to be easy to clean and stand heavy use.
That main level has three bedrooms
and two full baths. Downstairs is a large multi-purpose room
plus a half-bath and utility room. The master bedroom is very private,
under a high open-beam ceiling that is consistent with the decor
of the great room Its south-facing windows overlook a honeysuckle
and a crabapple tree. There is a walk-in closet with built-in shelving and
drawers, and a private bath.
The 598 square foot double garage
has built-in storage cabinets, storage
under the stairs and an extremely stout workbench. It has a floor drain,
too.
Behind the home is a storage building
or workshop that is almost the size
of a single garage, great for all your toys. Wired with power,
one side of it is accessed with a garage door and serves as a
versatile workshop. The other side has its walls and ceilings of
plywood, so you can store lots of heavy things without causing
damage.
This is a unique Alaskan home. With the fireplace roaring and a
good book to read there is no better place to snuggle up in the
winter. In the summer open all the doors and windows and let the breeze and
the birds fly
through!
